| 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Sharon (Edmonton, AB CANADA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Johnny Belinda (1982 TV movie) [VHS] (VHS Tape) This better than average made-for-television remake of the 1948 classic "Johnny Belinda" may disappoint fans of that version, but it more than makes up for the storyline differences by the sincere performances of its leads -- Rosanna Arquette (as 'Belinda McAdam') and Richard Thomas (as 'William Richmond').Thomas plays "William 'Bill' Richmond" a VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) worker who comes to Hatcher to teach about nutrition and public health to the poverty stricken rural community and to help set up an agricultural cooperative. He works in tandem with 'Julie Sayles' (Candy Clark), a local public nurse, and slowly becomes acquainted with the taciturn residents. While attempting to set up a communal garden, and after a near-miss he becomes aware of a silent, mute, disheveled girl by the name of Belinda. Well, I don't remember what I learned, but I remember it brought me to tears at the time. I, unfortunately haven't seen the older version, but this one is well acted and sincere in its story-telling. You will enjoy it. I promise.
