If you spend 30 seconds making sure the rifle's chamber is clean, and that this seats fully, this gives a perfect shot down a bore. I set mine at dusk, and could see the dot about 200 yards away. Made it easy to see the angle of the rifle to scope, by checking at different ranges. Was able to get my first shot within a few inches very easy using this.If You plan to set up optics on any weapon, get one of these that matches. The short battery life others have noted really doesn't matter much, as this is a tool that You should really only need to use when replacing optics on a rifle. A fresh set of batteries cost less than the 10 to 20 shots in ammunition it saves. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get an extra set and keep it on hand if You like to tinker with your setup a lot. It tested very "repeatable" for me, being that I could slide it in and out of the chamber repeatedly but once the bolt was closed it was always back to the same spot.
